August trip on board Star Koat
Life on board and friends for life
Once again, an unbelievable, amazing trip on board Star Koat. Our guests were half Brazilians and half Australians and despite any cultural differences, by the end of the trip we had all become friends for life.
The Australians got to try many Brazilian dishes and the Brazilians were almost forced to like Vegemite –“ if you want to get barrelled you need some vegemite for breakfast!” and if you didn’t get any barrels “ohhh!! You didn’t get your vegemite.”
We scored good waves during the all trip, we got an easy and perfect day at Bintang for everyone to learn or practice how to get barrelled, two good but more challenging days at Green Bush that flipped their minds and for the pick of the swell we parked our boat in front of this non stop wave machine called Macarronis. As if it wasn’t enough in the last days we surfed a glassy Regs right with only our guests in the water and in the way back, Lances Left that hardly could get any better.
About the Australian team I can tell I’ve never seen anything like that. They were literally the all day in the water. They were going out for their only one session early in the morning and coming back for a late lunch around 5pm. We where all shocked and it kept that way until the last day of the trip. Darrel the Barrel (as we nicknamed him) had his both knees badly scratched from the deck of his board. He could barely walk but it didn’t stop him to have his 8-hour surf session every day. Wow.
A nice story that's worth sharing is that the Australians were in the Mentawais last year on a surf trip and they lost a dear friend surfing. He passed away while doing something that he loved and that’s everyone’s last and nice memory of him. As a tribute they arranged a trip together to hang a board with family pictures on the place of the accident. On that day they had an unforgettable session in the same place surfing all by their own in the water. It was definitely a special moment to keep forever.
The season keeps consistent with light wind a lot of swell and at this same time I’m writing this text I checked the forecast and next week its going to be pumping!! I hope you have the chance to jump onboard one of our boats!"
